DOD Warrior Games

The Department of Defense Warrior Games were established in 2010 as a way to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded warriors and to expose them to adaptive sports in an Olympic-like setting.

Chicago was chosen to host the first games to be held off a military base, and Edelman was agency awarded to bring the games to life. Highlighted were 265 wounded warrior athletes representing the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, SOCOM, and the UK and Australia.

I was tasked to lead and coordinate the design of all the digital signage inside and outside the Chicago United Center Stadium, for the sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball events, as well as the ending medal ceremonies. We were in charge of all printed materials– banners, posters and signage, as well.

180+ Digital pieces had to be created + coordinated, inside and outside the stadium.

The scoreboard alone had 14 screens, with multiple uses. For example, in one rotation, the top 8 featured sponsor's videos that had to be timed with content on the ribbons in the stands.

There were many moving parts that needed to be timed precisely with the ROS for this to run smoothly. We worked closely with the UC digital team to make this happen.

Each of them managed an area: The "Bowl" (Scoreboard + Ribbons), the Atrium, the Concourse, and the Exterior.
